Core Web Vitals explained simply

Three metrics Google uses to evaluate how user-friendly a website is. They sound technical, but behind each one is a simple thing the user feels.

Metrics

What they mean

⏱

Main content speed

How many seconds it takes for the main things to appear: the product photo, the headline, the price. The target is up to 2.5 seconds.

👆

Response to interaction

How long the page thinks after a button is pressed. If it takes too long, the person clicks again and gets annoyed.

📐

Layout stability

Whether content jumps around while the page loads. A classic case: you press a button, and at that very moment a banner loads and pushes everything down.

Causes

What hurts the metrics in an online store

Images without set dimensions. The browser does not know how much space to reserve – and after loading, everything jumps.
Ads and banners that load late. The main cause of layout shifts on commercial websites.
Heavy scripts. The page looks ready, but does not respond to clicks.

In practice

What to do about it

Do not chase the green zone at any cost. Perfect metrics do not guarantee rankings. What matters is staying out of the red zone.
Check real data. Search Console shows the metrics of real, live users instead of a lab test.
