Misrepresentation in Google Merchant Center: why accounts get suspended and how to get yours back

"Misleading representation" (Misrepresentation) is the most dreaded verdict in Merchant Center: the whole account gets suspended, with no specific explanation of what exactly is wrong. We look at what Google actually issues this suspension for and how a working appeal is built.

What it is

How Google understands "misrepresentation"

Misrepresentation concerns trust in the store as a whole, beyond any single product. The algorithm evaluates dozens of signals: whether the site looks like a real business, whether you can find out who is behind it, whether its promises are true. If the sum of the signals "doesn't add up", the whole account is suspended. That is why you need to fix everything comprehensively instead of hunting for "that one product".

Incomplete contacts. No physical address, no business details of the sole proprietor (FOP) or LLC, no phone – for Google this is an "anonymous site", the first trigger.
Terms pages are missing or purely formal. Returns "by agreement", delivery with no times or prices – a sign of unreliability.
Unrealistic discounts and prices. A never-ending "-70% today only", crossed-out prices pulled out of thin air – a classic manipulation trigger.
Copied content. A clone site with other people's texts, stock "reviews" and a template "About us" page looks like a fly-by-night operation.
A young domain with no signs of life. The domain is two weeks old, there are no social media accounts, zero mentions online – Google gives no trust in advance.
Inconsistencies everywhere. The store name differs in Merchant Center, on the site and in the payment details; prices jump between the feed and the site – the unreliability puzzle comes together.

Rescue plan

How suspended accounts are restored

01

An audit through a reviewer's eyes

Go through your site as a skeptical buyer: is it clear who is selling, how long delivery takes, how to return an item? Anything that raises questions for a person raises them for the algorithm too.

02

Fixing the ENTIRE list

Contacts with an address and business details, honest terms pages, real prices without fake discounts, unique texts. Half-hearted fixes = another rejection.

03

One strong appeal

The review request is submitted AFTER all the fixes, and only once. Every rejected appeal lowers the chances of the next one – so "giving it a random try" is worse than waiting and submitting it properly.

04

If rejections keep coming

After several rejections, only a deep rework of the site and time to build up trust will help. Creating a "new account to get around it" leads to a ban for the circumvention attempt itself, and that ban cannot be undone.

The cheapest way to deal with Misrepresentation is to never get it: a site with full contacts, honest terms and tidy prices from day one passes moderation without any surprises.
