Mobile version: what Google looks at

Google evaluates a site by its mobile version. If part of the content is hidden or broken on a phone, that is exactly how the search engine sees your site.

Key points

What this means in practice

The mobile version is the primary one. The desktop version can be excellent, yet rankings rely on what the phone sees.
Hidden content is lost content. If the category text on mobile is collapsed into a non-clickable block or cut out completely, it may not be taken into account.
Different versions mean different problems. A separate mobile version on a subdomain almost always creates duplicates and inconsistencies.

Tip

The simplest test

Place an order from a phone yourself. Use a real device on mobile internet instead of an emulator in the browser. You will find more than any automated test.
