How much text a catalog category needs

"How many characters" is the wrong question at its core. The right one is: does the text answer the question the shopper still has after browsing the products?

characters are usually enough

Reality

About length

Length is not a ranking factor. A page with a short, useful text will outrank a wall of filler.
Use the top competitors as a benchmark. Look at the text length on pages that already rank. Treat it as a hint, with no strict rule behind it.
For most categories, 500–1,500 characters are enough. Longer texts are justified where there is something to explain: appliances and electronics, building materials, equipment.

What to write about

🎯

How to choose

The shopper's main question in a category. Two or three parameters worth looking at.

📊

How they differ

What lies behind the price difference between similar products.

🚚

Terms

Delivery, warranty and returns for this category, if they are special.

Placement

Where to place the text

A short intro at the top, the rest at the bottom. Two or three sentences above the products, the full text after the product listing.
Keep it out of the product grid. Text that breaks up the product grid gets in the shopper's way.
Keep it out of collapsed blocks on mobile. If the text is fully hidden, it may not be taken into account.
