How many products you need to start selling
The question comes up in two opposite situations: when you have a dozen products and it seems too few, and when you have five thousand and it is unclear where to start. In both cases the answer depends on depth more than on quantity.
8–10
products minimum per category
50+
items for a proper start
200+
for stable ad performance
The main point
Depth matters more than breadth
30 items in one niche look expert. A specialized store with a well-filled category earns trust: it is clear that you know the subject.
The same 30 items spread across eight categories look empty. Each section has three products, there is nothing to choose from, filters don't work, and the shopper moves on.
The takeaway for launch. One or two well-filled product lines are better than covering everything at once and only superficially.

The algorithm needs data
With a dozen items, a campaign takes a long time to learn. With a few hundred or more, it learns faster and more stably.

But don't upload too much
200 products you can actually ship are better than 2,000 "made to order" with unknown lead times.
⚖️
Balance
The benchmark: enough items to have something to show, and enough control to keep orders from falling through.
The other extreme
When there are too many products
A price list of several thousand items. It is tempting to upload everything at once. But some products have no demand, some are duplicates, and some are poorly described.
The consequences. The catalog bloats, categories become unreadable, and you have to work with the whole array at once.
The right way. Start with what sells best and expand the catalog in waves, checking traffic and orders in the new categories.
A practical benchmark: at least 8–10 products in every open category, 50 or more in total. After that, grow based on data and skip adding items "just in case".
