How to check your website in Search Console: the basic reports
Search Console is a free tool that shows how the search engine sees your website. It is the only source of truth about indexing and real search queries.
Reports
Four screens worth knowing
📊
Performance
Queries, impressions, clicks, average position. The main report: it shows what people search for when they find you.
🔍
Indexing
How many pages are in the index and why the rest are excluded – broken down by reason.
⚡
Core Web Vitals
Speed and usability based on data from real users rather than lab tests.
🏷
Enhancements
Structured data errors for products, breadcrumbs and FAQ.
What to look at
Practical scenarios
Pages with impressions and no clicks. You appear in the search results, yet nobody clicks on you – the problem is in the Title and Description.
Queries you did not expect. People search differently than you thought – this is material for new pages and categories.
A sharp drop in impressions. A sign of a technical problem or algorithm changes. The sooner you notice it, the cheaper it is to fix.
The minimum
What to do right away
Verify ownership of the website. Without it you see nothing. It takes five minutes.
Submit a sitemap. This speeds up the discovery of new pages.
Check it once a week. That is enough to spot a problem in time.
Not sure what Search Console is telling you?
We will go through your reports and show you what to check every week and what to ignore.
