Discuss your store

A buyer cannot leaf through a book, so they choose by the cover, blurb, author and publisher. A book online store shows this data in the product card and suggests what to read next, so several titles end up in the cart.

  • a catalog by genre, reader age, author, series and publisher;
  • a product card with the cover, blurb, an excerpt, ISBN, page count and year of publication;
  • filters by language, cover type, year of publication, availability and price;
  • "More by this author" and "From this series" blocks below the description;
  • an "On order" status for new releases and titles that are out of stock;
  • a feed for Google Shopping, Prom.ua and Rozetka with the ISBN in every item.

Shoppers and sales

What an online store for books solves

A shopper chooses a product in a few minutes and goes where it is easier to find, compare and pay.

  • A book cannot be leafed through

    The cover, blurb, author and publisher in the product card give the buyer enough information to choose.

  • It is hard to choose the next book

    Blocks of similar books, series and authors suggest the next title, and several items go into the cart.

  • One book comes out in different editions

    A catalog by genre, reader age and series plus an availability filter show the right edition right away.

Questions

Frequent questions about an online store for books

How much does an online store for books cost?

A turnkey store costs from $500, with 1C / BAS integration – from $1,000, a complex project with integrations – from $2,000. The platform plan and domain are paid separately. Details are on the Turnkey online store page.

What platform will the store be on?

Our main platform is Horoshop: we are a certified Horoshop partner and have been launching stores on it since 2015. For custom logic, we recommend WordPress or custom development.

How do I upload products?

We import from a spreadsheet, a supplier feed or your old website. We structure the specifications so that they work in the filters.

Will you connect payment and delivery?

Yes: online payment, cash on delivery, Nova Poshta and order notifications in Telegram and by e-mail.

Where will the store get shoppers from?

We lay the SEO foundation during the launch, and for a quick start of sales we connect Google Shopping and Meta ads. The ad budget is paid separately.

I already have a store on another platform

We move it to Horoshop with products, page URLs and redirects – from $600. Details: store migration to Horoshop.

How readers choose books and what holds them back

A reader types buy a book into Google together with the title, author or series, and chooses a gift by topic and the recipient's age. They compare editions: who translated it, which year, what cover, whether there are illustrations. Without this data they go to a site that has it.

A purchase is held back by a missing excerpt, unclear availability and an unknown delivery time. A regular reader wants to find a new release by a favorite author in a minute and order several books in one order.

What a book online store includes

  • catalog structure: genres, age groups, series, authors, publishers and holiday selections;
  • an edition card with ISBN, translator, illustrator, format, weight and an excerpt;
  • filters by edition language, cover type, year, page count and availability;
  • import of distributor price lists with scheduled price and stock updates;
  • "In stock", "Coming soon" and "On order" statuses, a new releases page;
  • a cart, payment by card or in installments, Nova Poshta and Ukrposhta delivery and pickup;
  • gift certificates and a page with exchange and return terms.

Books with the same title come out in different print runs, so the ISBN becomes the key of the product card and the identifier in the feed. The publisher and country of publication are placed prominently in the card, so the buyer sees exactly what they are ordering. We set up e-books and audiobooks as a separate flow with payment and file delivery.

SEO, Google Shopping and marketplaces for a bookstore

Authors, series, publishers and genres get their own pages with titles and descriptions. Popular filter combinations, such as genre and reader age, have indexed URLs. The approach to categories and filters is described on the page "SEO for online stores". For books the ISBN serves as the GTIN, so we build the feed for Google Shopping from the ISBN, price and availability. We prepare the same catalog for Prom.ua and Rozetka if you sell there too.

Price and launch time for a book store

A turnkey book online store costs from $500: the platform is Horoshop or WordPress, and the price is fixed in the contract. Hosting, the domain and the platform plan are paid separately. The timeline depends on the number of titles and the format of distributor price lists; we write it into the contract after a free consultation. The domain and admin panel belong to you. The work formats are described on the page turnkey online store development.

Questions and answers

Can the catalog be loaded from distributor price lists?

Yes. We import price lists in Excel or XML into the catalog and match them by ISBN. Then we set up regular price and stock updates, so new titles appear in the store without manual entry.

How do you present a book if it cannot be leafed through?

We add the cover from several angles, a spread and an excerpt, and for children's books a page-flip video. The buyer sees what they will get and hesitates less.

Does the store work for books in different languages?

Yes. The edition language becomes a catalog filter, and the store itself can have several language versions. The buyer quickly separates Ukrainian editions from English or German ones.

What do you do with books that are out of stock?

The product card stays on the site with a "Coming soon" or "On order" status and an estimated time. The manager sees such orders separately and notifies the buyer when the book arrives.
